The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will be closing the Cordell Hull Bridge in Smith County June 29th and 30th during daytime hours for maintenance work following inspections last week.
One lane of US 70S/SR 1/Harding Pike West will remain closed for another month as work continues on the bridge over Sugartree Creek in Belle Meade due to utility delays.
NASHVILLE – Road construction won’t slow motorists across Tennessee over the July 4 holiday. The Tennessee Department of Transportation will suspend all construction-related lane closures on interstates and state routes beginning at 6:00 a.m. on Friday, July 1 through 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5 to provide maximum roadway capacity for holiday travelers.

Crews with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) reopened the Cordell Hull Bridge this afternoon.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Upon further evaluation and testing of the Cordell Hull Bridge in Smith County, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has concluded what appeared to be a crack is simply corrosion of the steel. This minimal amount of deterioration is not a structural concern and will take minor repairs. The bridge has been deemed safe under its current weight limit of 28 tons.
