NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Litter on Tennessee’s 96,167 miles of public roads – 4,022 of which are classified as scenic – is more than an eyesore. It’s an enormous burden to the state with impacts on public health and safety, the environment, and the economy. According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s (TDOT) latest Visible Litter Study, littering in Tennessee has decreased by 12 percent since 2016. While these findings are encouraging, there are still more than 88 million pieces of litter on the state’s roadways at any given time.

NASHVILLE – Road construction won’t slow motorists across Tennessee over the July 4 holiday. The Tennessee Department of Transportation will suspend all construction-related lane closures on interstates and state routes beginning at midnight on Saturday, July 1 through 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5 to provide maximum roadway capacity for holiday travelers.

Nashville, Tenn. - The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) announces the launch of Project Milkweed, a new mail-order resource aimed at restoring and preserving habitats for monarch butterflies and other pollinator species across Tennessee. Project Milkweed provides free native milkweed seeds to Tennesseans upon completion of an online form. Orders are taken on a rolling basis and will be fulfilled during September and October just in time for fall planting. NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Today, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announced a statewide “Build with Us Tour” to celebrate the landmark Transportation Modernization Act and highlight key infrastructure priorities across rural and urban Tennessee. Gov. Lee’s travel will include stops in all three Grand Divisions throughout June and July, beginning in Fentress County on Thursday, June 1.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will be closing the I-55 Mississippi River Bridge to continue construction activities on the I-55 and Crump interchange. Activities include setting beams for the new Wisconsin Bridge, construction of cross-over at the east end of I-55 bridge, and repair work on the I-55 bridge. All work is weather dependent.
